What to do in the local area

There is something for everyone within the local North Devon area.

A short walk to the village of West Down

West Down is just half a mile away.  It boasts a friendly village pub, a community shop stocking an abundance of local produce and a children’s play area.

Explore Exmoor

Exmoor is reached within a half hour drive. Perfect for countryside lovers and ramblers. Walk, admire the view and try to spot the Exmoor ponies, visit Tarr Steps, The Valley of the Rocks, Lynton and Lymouth or just have a picnic in the peaceful, picturesque surroundings.  Heddon’s Mouth is also well worth a visit. You can enjoy a pleasant walk to the cove where you may be lucky enough to spot the local seals. The list of things to do on Exmoor is endless.

Many theme parks and gardens are nearby

There are also many family orientated theme parks nearby.  Visit the dinosaurs at Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park, the bees at Quince Honey Farm in South Molton, the sheep at The Big Sheep at Bideford and the family theme park and castle at Watermouth Castle, just outside Ilfracombe.  Additionally, Arlington Court and National Trust Carriage Museum is less than 7 miles away and RHS Garden Rosemoor can be reached in just under an hour.

Ilfracombe is our local seaside town

Ilfracombe is only a few minutes drive away and hosts all you would expect of a seaside town, with high street shops, supermarkets, banks, a public swimming pool, cinema and theatre.  The attractive harbour features Damian Hirst’s well known statue ‘Verity’, as well as offering fishing trips, trips to Lundy Island (see if you can spot the puffins on Lundy) and the chance to eat fish and chips by the sea.  A visit to the Victorian tunnels beaches should also be on everyone’s list of things to do.  It is steeped in history and features tidal bathing pools and fantastic rock pools.

Sandy beaches are just a short drive away

The wonderful sandy beaches of Woolacombe, Croyde, Saunton and Ilfracombe can all be reached within a short 5-15 minute drive.  Woolacombe, just 5 miles away, was voted within the top 5 UK beaches in 2017 and it’s not hard to see why.  Miles of clean, soft sand, spectacular rock pools and a lovely safe sea for a paddle!

Outdoor leisure activities for all the family

You will also be spoilt for choice if you are looking for outdoor leisure activities. Within the local area you will find canoeing/kayaking, horse riding, watersports, cycle hire and great cycle paths, fishing, golf, surf schools and tennis, to name just a few activities.
